SUPPORTING BERBATOVO VILLAGE SPORTS ACTIVITIES

After the initiative of the Citizens Council of Berbatovo village, Palilula Municipality provided necessary resources for renovating and equipping of sport terrain in the yard of elementary school. Four columns with reflector lights were provided here for sport recreation activities. On this occasion, Milos Stojkovic, member of Palilula Assembly visited this village: `We want to improve the life in Palilula villages, to invest in infrastructure of our settlements, to give impulse to the development of rural tourism and interest specially young people to stay in these parts of our municipality. That is why we have supported the initiative of our fellow citizens` - emphasized Milos Stojkovic. While meeting Miodrag Matejic, president of Citizens` Council of Berbatovo village, they both pointed at the other possibilities of development and investing in this area that stands for, according to their characteristics, one true green oasis.
Milos Stojkovic also visited the Church of St Dimitrije in Berbatovo that has been also recently renovated with the help of Palilula Municipality and other donors. From historical notes we find out that Berbatovo, is in the beginning of Turkish rule, had about thirty houses and that in the village three mills were active. During the liberation time Ibrahim – beg was the ruler of this village. In 1878 Berbatovo had 45 households and 375 people. After that period it was in the course of the similar changes like village of Vukmanovo had. From the the last century 70s on the weekend zone of Nis people was formed from Gabrovac Monastery to Berbatovo. In the population register from 1948 there were 910 registered in this village and 157 households. In 2002 in Berbatovo lived 364 people.
The initiative of Palilula Municipal authorities is to prevent further migrations from rural areas to cities and this initiative deserves the attention and community support.
